Shirley Valentine
By Willy Russell
April 24 – May 4, 2025
Directed by
Trent Dawson
Experience the heartwarming, hilarious, and utterly inspiring story of Shirley Valentine. Written by Willy Russell (Educating Rita) and directed by Trent Dawson, this classic West End and Broadway comedy will take you on a journey of self-discovery, laughter, and second chances.
Shirley is an unassuming housewife who dreams of escape and wonders what happened to the cavalier girl she once was. When she’s offered a chance for adventure, will she take it? Or will a big step into the unknown be too big a risk? Russell’s play reveals itself to be about ageing, how we betray our own dreams and become people we don’t recognise, and how we tolerate (or don’t) unhappiness for fear of the unknown.
Mr Russell said he writes ”serious plays with a lot of funny lines” and The NY Times declared Shirley Valentine to be a ”brilliantly funny plea on behalf of all those who society tries to coax into acquiescing in their own suppression.”
The cast includes award-winning actor Andrus Nichols as Shirley, and will be directed by KCS Artistic Director Trent Dawson. KCS will host an Opening Night Party on Friday, April 25 at the North Castle Library.
