2022 New York Drama Critics Winner

for BEST PLAY

A Case for the Existence of God

By Samuel D. Hunter

October 24th – November 3rd, 2024

Directed by

Trent Dawson

A Case for the Existence of God is a transcendent work of empathy and catharsis by MacArthur Fellow Samuel D. Hunter, best known for his Oscar-nominated film The Whale. With unique humor and honesty, the play brings together the lives of two ordinary men, Ryan and Keith, who, for different reasons, are outsiders to the systems that control their fate. After meeting at their daughters’ daycare, the men form an unlikely friendship, navigating fatherhood, loneliness, and the confounding terms of a mortgage loan. A thoughtful and meditative two-hander, Hunter’s extraordinary play is both intimate and expansive as it explores themes of parenthood, financial insecurity, and isolation. When it premiered in 2022, The New York Times, called it “A must-see heartbreaker of a play.”

The cast includes Broadway veteran James A. Pierce III and Tim Walker Anderson. The show will be directed by KCS Artistic Director Trent Dawson. For the play’s Westchester premiere, KCS will host an Opening Night Party on Friday, October 25th, at 8 p.m. at the North Castle Library.
